Hi Mom,
The internet hasn´t been allowing us to sign into myldsmail.net so I´m gonna do this and hope it works for you! And because of that I will only be getting your email this week since i don´t know everybodies passwords. (he went into my email and wrote to me. I am so thankful he thought of that!!! Glad he knows my password - don't any of you be figuring it out, I plan to NOT change it until he gets home for sure.)
The area... I´m in Mairena del Aljarafe. It´s just south-west of Sevilla! Which by the way is the hottest spot in the mission. There are a lot of south americans here. about 80% And they are really hard to understand! We walk to our main proselyting area every day which is about 20 - 25 minutes away... depending on how tired we are that day. jaja My companion is Elder Going. He´s been out 9 months now and is from Logan Utah. He´s 20 and plays the piano really well and sings. After hanging out with the rest of the zone today... He´s a good companion. I didn´t really doubt that before but I´m glad I started out with him. There are some interesting people in my zone. There are 12 missionaries for the sevilla area. " missionaries per ward... and that´s for all of spain. (anyone know how many " is???)
We have a family that we rent from that takes us to church every week and feeds us after church. They have three children...19,17,15 and the oldest just turned in his papers yesterday. We have a baptism this saturday with a lady named Marilou. She grew up catholic, married a baptist minister and naturally went to that church until he died a couple years ago... now she´s getting baptised after 45 years of investigation. she´s from the phillipenes (sp?) I think all my english spelling is already going down the hole. And I used to be pretty good.
Anyway... and we should hopefully be committing another to baptism tonight for the end of july!!! I have a good area to work in but it´s really hard to understand anybody except for my companion... and they don´t speak spaniard spanish, which is what ii was wanting to learn... they speak andaluce (andaluth) which means they don´t pronounce hardly anything so for someone trying to learn spanish in general, it´s really hard... but once I get to understanding these people I´ll be able to understand anybody. Fun stuff.
Bryan you gotta stop running into the walls. At least it wasn´t your head this time! haha
Anyway, You like the sword huh? I told you you would like it! well I gotta try writing an email to president so... I love you all! Sorry I can´t write as much or to other people as often!

Malaga, here he comes!
Dear Heywood family,
We were so excited to have Elder Heywood arrive to the Malaga mission yesterday. He has been assigned to the suburb outside the city of Sevilla. We look forward to getting to know him better and to working with him.
We tell all the parents to be sure to email their missionary each week. They really need the support and words of love from home. Their preparation day is on Monday so you should be hearing from him then.

1 Week to go . . .
This is the last P-day in the CCM, but I do have monday to write before i leave if you want to write sometime sunday! I will definitely make sure I show my appreciation to Presidente and Hermana Hill. And don´t worry, it won´t be the first time I have thanked them.
So who was it that talked? Do I know her? Do you remember where she served? We have 13 in the CCM right now... just got the 13th yesterday. Unfortunately for her, 12 of us will be leaving on tuesday! I do think, however, that they will be getting other missionaries on Wednesday! So she won´t be alone for too long! It was sad hearing that a couple years ago there was a single Elder here over the Christmas Season! :( I can´t imagine how boring that would be!
Anyway... The funniest thing that happened this week... Well, you would have had to have been there but at lunch one day we had a good laughing session. We started talking about Bobcats and how the church should have one in Siberia and it should be the mode of transportation for the Elders up there! We just kept making jokes about it and every time we mentioned the word bobcat Elder Gerber would have a laughing attack. Not really funny to you but it was great! The funny thing though is that the whole time we were thinking the construction vehicle bobcat while Elder gerber was thinking the animal bobcat! Made it really interesting when we found that out cuz we had been making jokes about crashing the bobcat into the only tree in siberia and about bobcat insurance and totalling the bobcat... stuff like that! If you read that stuff thinking the animal... well it was good stuff.
The best thing that happened to me... Well I talked to President about some things. I was just having trouble staying motivated and... I´ll write some stuff that i wrote in my journal. He helped me realize that I need to focus on serving others. This is harder since I don´t have investigators to look to but he reminded me that I can serve the teachers, my commpanion, and other missionaries here! I also received a blessing from him. That was the most spiritual thing I felt all week. I realized that the feelings I recognize as the Holy Ghost are the same as the direct presence of the Father. It was amazing to me to remember that Heavenly Father is so close to us... If We Allow Him! It is the greatest Thing I have felt in a long time! He also blessed me to find the inner drive that will keep me motivated to serve and to work! I needed to take the small spiritual experiences and hold on to them. I explained to him that it´s like I have a spiritual bucket but it´s got holes in it. While I was talking with him I was thinking and realized that most of my spiritual experiences are when something happens to me but I need to have my own spiritual experiences.

Last Temple Trip
Good ole monsoon season rollin´ in!!! So Sarah bought a scooter huh? Was it green? I´ll put $20 on it!... Oh wait, I´m on a mission... No betting aloud. I think she´ll do ok on it! It is kind of a scary thought though! Tell her I want her to be alive when I get home! And if she´s not... I´ll kill her!... .... .... uh... haha
You never knew that the Nobles have two faster children? I´m sorry! Yeah they´ve had them since last summer i think. They are cool little kids! And they have a younger brother that is with the Dentons in our stake! Man I haven´t heard from any of my friends yet. Maybe it´s better that I don´t. idk That´s so wierd that Rachel is getting married! Who is she marrying? Crazy!!!
Half way done with summer school! That´s insane... well i guess it´s only 3 weeks long huh? I think it´s crazy how easy some teachers make it! It doesn´t do anybody any good.
Who was making the no bake cookies? Got a little carried away with the liquid huh? That reminds me... What about rice krispie treats. I kinda want that recipe... but they probably won´t have non-dairy margerine here huh? Oh well!
Thanks for getting this sent a little earlier this week. Today was the last temple visit for us. It is being closed for cleaning on our last week. :( So we stayed today and did extra stuff. We had missionaries in every part of the temple at the same time today. That was cool to think about.

What on EARTH!
Hola Madre!
Well I didn´t do the math but it is about 39ºC here. (102º F - Yuck! I thought they were only supposed to be 80ish) No it hasn´t rained yet today, but I sure thought it would be raining or will be soon today. (And muggy to boot!)
Yes Myrna´s stuff did get here and yes it did cost a fortune! :P There were no problems with customs getting it here. And the bubble wrap stuff was fun! Oh good times!!! haha
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!... Even though you won´t hear that for a couple days! I love you! Thank you for everything you´ve done for me and the family! Keep up the hard work!
So yeah we were supposed to get a new Sister here yesterday but she got stuck in the MTC. Apparently they traced it back to a family that had 30 family members come to drop off their Elder and one of the family had just gotten back from Mexico... But that´s not doctrine. Don´t spread that around. (An article in Mormon Times said the very same thing. So the deal is, because of Swine flu in the MTC, there are only curb-side dropoffs and the missionaries there that are due to depart are being held for up to 2 weeks, waiting out the incubation period. The drop-off procedure is a permanent change - putting the Provo MTC in line with all the other MTCs around the world.) I feel bad for the future missionaries... Especially the ones that come from a ways away with their family and didn´t hear that they can´t come in any more. That will happen I´m sure!
I was actually just in the temple today trying to figure out how to deal with one of the Elders here in the CCM... not my companion but somone else that is getting on everybody´s nerves. Thanks. I guess he´s the "Mater." I can´t figure out what side of Doc you´re trying to see. Explain. I am probably being a Mater to my room!... I try hard to avoid milk... haha (Austin and I obviously view Mater in different lights. I think of him as a trusting friend, a cheer you on type. But I can see him being absolutely bugged by that personality! If you are lost, think Cars. Put yourself in place of one of the cars, and people you know as the others. Just look at what you see in them, supportive, irritations, friends who trust, or teachers who are hard on you when they need to be, but kind when you allow it. We've been talking about what support systems we have in our lives, and who we support in what ways. It can be very enlightening.)
So we have a bunch of quotes on the bulletin board here... Here´s one of the funny ones...

Small Talk
So that Austin's letters make more sense, I am posting my silly first one to him.

You´ll have to let me know how the trek went! Where are they going this year? I want a good travelog of it from morgan when she gets home!
So, school´s done and gone for the summer huh? Crazy stuff!

Elder Jackson is from Gilbert! He lives about half a mile from where the temple will be built!

Not quite sure where we´re going yet but I´ll let you know... hopefully! I should be getting on at about 8 your time... 5 mine so if you want to write anymore today then get it done before then!

Guess What I found this week?... A bag full of Pecans! I forgot that I had them, but I found them this week and now they are gone! :( I wish I had a full suitcase of Pecans! They are the best nut ever! So how´s your new car holding up? So now we´ve got a red, silver, black, green, and yellow... and sometimes another silver car in our drive-way? And to top it all off... a Blue door!!! ;)
In that picture we were at the main entrance of Parque de Madrid! I can do that! I don´t have any cool pictures to send you this week!
Thanks for getting David´s info for me! Elder Pastillo leaves on Monday. And yes it is "legal" to write other missionaries. as far as emailing to other missions... that´s up to the mission pres i think. I also found out that it´s legal for elders to stay in an $800,000.00 house on their mission. haha Elder Southwick´s friend is in... eastern U.S. anyway... and there is a member in their ward that is trying to sell it but can´t so he´s letter the Elders stay there! This place has an elevator and a pond inside and it´s all for two 20 year old boys! It´s insane!!!
I like the quote you added onto the end of that email. It´s so true! No-one would cross it if they couldn´t deal with a storm.
So what are some of the rewards you have for them? A thought came to me about that! When we teach people we are supposed to extend commitments and promise blessings for follwing the commitments. However, the Lord often will bless us with more than what we are promised if we have a willing heart in our actions. And if we don´t promise them blessings they are less likely to follow through with what we commit them to. This is much the same in that you are promising them rewards, even though you aren´t specifying what they are they know they are there! then when they follow through and complete the goal they are sometimes rewarded with more than they expect.
Kristalyn sent me her email just in time! I got yours, printed it off and logged out to read it, and logged back in to write back to you and saw that she sent me one too!

I saw Cory today - he said to tell you hello. He was telling me that when he had been in Germany for 2 weeks, he was talking to a lady. He shared quite a bit with her. When he finished, the lady looked at his companion and asked, "What language is he speaking?"
Austin, I am so tired I cannot even think straight right now. I need to go to bed, and when I get up to get Morgan off for the trek I will be able to write more to you. I hope that happens before you get to the computer! I love you!!! Much more than this message proves! Here's to a bit of rest, and a clearer mind in a few hours.

Who's Loco??
Dear Family,
New Car? Cool! So they say this one is more "Your style?" Is that because you are getting a new grandson this summer? And it´s silver? That´s a new one for us! We seem to like the green and red ones lately! (he totally misunderstood - even though a bonneville sounds like it would look like a "grandma" car, he was told the car is perhaps a little too sporty looking for his parents - that it looks more like one of the boys should be driving it.)
Hey before I forget I need to get David´s contact info for someone that is here right now! We ocaisionally have missionaries going to Italy here and there is one right now that is from Otavalo, Ecuador!!! He said he knows David... I can´t remember his last name right now! ... The one that is amazing on the piano! But this Elder´s name is Elder P_______! He wants to get in contact with david... Get grammy!!! He wrote down his name in my agenda book... "P______ N_____" It´s funny though, he speeks no english, tons of spanish and is learning Italian! He is so excited to serve a mission... but was SOOOOO sad when he needed to get his hair cut off! It was so long! (Otovalans wear their hair in a long, very long braid down their backs. That had to be hard to cut!!! Austin's Grandparents served a mission in Otavalo - wonderful people!!!)
Anyway, get that for me and you will make one excited missionary!... Get email, address, phone #, anything so that he can get in contact during or after the mission! Thanks! And thanks for taking care of the face stuff with Myrna! I hope what you sent will last until her stuff arrives! I can make it work!
So, I got called loco today! jaja I was on the metro and tried to talk to someone but I kinda stumbled over the words and she just turned away and mumbled to the boy next to her that I was loco! jeje It´s all good though! My companion sure made fun of me though!
Did you talk to a bunch of people about the gosple and get "The Spanish Finger"? haha richard will know what I´m talking about for sure! It´s notheing rude like in America when you get The Finger! it´s just their rejection! Except I was paired up with another Elder that knew less spanish than I did! :P that made for an interesting time! we didn´t get any really good contacts. Oh well! They don´t come all at once huh!?! But it was a good experience for me! I need to really learn how to speak Spanish fast! and the old people are so hard to understand! They mumble a lot more than the youngins... which we just talked to out on the temple grounds. there were four boys headed from school and walked across the temple grounds while we were out there. We greeted them and they tried to talk english to us... they are about as good in english as we are in spanish! it was fun though! I like talking to the young kids around here! They are a lot easier to make contact with! Let´s see their names were anthony, mario,... ok I can´t remember the other two names. Once we found out they spoke english... a little... we asked how old they are and then there was a pause and "Good!" haha then I asked in spanish and they answered in english "fifty" haha makes me have hope for my spanish.
No Aunt LeNell has not gotten me that priesthood line of Authority yet! Still want it! i love hearing stories about Joseph Smith! He truly was a great man! I got the First vision memorized in spanish, finally! Fun stuff! Spanish is coming along and I´m learning how to teach better too! Well, picture time.

So, I got called loco today! jaja I was on the metro and tried to talk to someone but I kinda stumbled over the words and she just turned away and mumbled to the boy next to her that I was loco! jeje It´s all good though! My companion sure made fun of me though!
Did you talk to a bunch of people about the gosple and get "The Spanish Finger"? haha richard will know what I´m talking about for sure! It´s notheing rude like in America when you get The Finger! it´s just their rejection! Except I was paired up with another Elder that knew less spanish than I did! :P that made for an interesting time! we didn´t get any really good contacts. Oh well! They don´t come all at once huh!?! But it was a good experience for me! I need to really learn how to speak Spanish fast! and the old people are so hard to understand! They mumble a lot more than the youngins... which we just talked to out on the temple grounds. there were four boys headed from school and walked across the temple grounds while we were out there. We greeted them and they tried to talk english to us... they are about as good in english as we are in spanish! it was fun though! I like talking to the young kids around here! They are a lot easier to make contact with! Let´s see their names were anthony, mario,... ok I can´t remember the other two names. Once we found out they spoke english... a little... we asked how old they are and then there was a pause and "Good!" haha then I asked in spanish and they answered in english "fifty" haha makes me have hope for my spanish.
No Aunt LeNell has not gotten me that priesthood line of Authority yet! Still want it! i love hearing stories about Joseph Smith! He truly was a great man! I got the First vision memorized in spanish, finally! Fun stuff! Spanish is coming along and I´m learning how to teach better too! Well, picture time.
